Venice Film Festival organizers arrange for Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt not to meet

The Venice Film Festival organizers scheduled Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s attendance on different days to avoid causing embarrassment for both of them.

In an interview with Vanity Fair on August 28, the festival’s artistic director – Alberto Barbera – said: “Angelina will be present on the first day of the event (August 29) and leave with director María Pablo Larraín to attend the Telluride Film Festival in Colorado, USA afterwards. Brad will arrive in Venice on Saturday. There is no way for them to meet at the Lido – where the event is held”.

According to Page Six ‘s source , the two artists did not ask the organizers to arrange such a schedule. “They were wise enough not to do that,” the person added.

Angelina Jolie has been in Venice since August 28, preparing to appear at the premiere of María . The film tells the story of opera legend Maria Callas and her final days in Paris in the 1970s. The work had its first screening at the Venice Film Festival, and is among the 21 projects competing for awards this year.

Brad Pitt will attend the awards ceremony with his close friend George Clooney from August 31, attending the red carpet premiere of Wolfs the following day. The film marks the return of the two actors after 16 years since Burn After Reading (2008). The content revolves around two crime scene cleanup experts who help clients hide crimes. Although it was shown at the festival, Wolfs is not competing for awards

It has been 17 years since Jolie and Pitt last walked the red carpet at the Venice Film Festival. In 2007, the couple attended the premiere of The Assassination of Jesse James , starring the actor. Three years later, the couple returned to the city with their six children so Jolie could film The Tourist with Johnny Depp.

The couple’s marriage broke down in 2016 after Angelina Jolie accused Brad Pitt of abusing her on a plane. That same year, she filed for divorce due to irreconcilable differences. They both fought for custody of their children, but Brad Pitt lost.

The couple is currently embroiled in a dispute over shares in a French estate that shows no signs of ending. Many international news sites believe that the confidentiality agreement is the main issue in the conflict between the two. Under the stress of their parents, most of the children (except the youngest son Knox, 16 years old) have decided to drop their father’s surname.

The Venice Film Festival is the oldest film event in Europe, first held in 1932. The 81st edition will take place from August 28 to September 7 (local time), with French star Isabelle Huppert as jury president.
